Brighton Car Boot Sale

So every other Sunday, my sister and I have a tradition of attending the Brighton Car Boot Sale, sometimes with Dad, which is held on my sisters schools oval. The weather was nice for it today, it has become very popular...people flock from everywhere, some bring their dogs too.
We enjoy looking for treasures amongst others 'trash', and yes, we have bought some pretty pointless things...we have also found some beautiful treasures too....

Cat tea pot

Deer & friends cookie jar.

There is also a stall there every time with older ladies selling cakes and biscuits, all home made. I love the lemon tea cake, and my sister loves the double choc cookies. I always get my boyfriend some macaroons.
We also stock up on fruit and veg, they had strawberries today...smelt beautiful :) Makes me feel like summer is coming!
So next fortnight is the planned date for our stall, I want to sell my canvas's, earrings, magnets, purses...and maybe some cupcakes for good measure ;)

Felt Coin Purse

I am a member of www. swap-bot.com. Swap bot is a cool site where people can sign up to specific swaps, mostly art, craft or craft material swaps. Members are from all over the world. International postage in Australia can get a bit expensive, but its all worth it once I get that exciting package in the mail! I highly recommend it!

Once of my recent swaps was a handmade coin purse swap. And it forced me to get out the 50 year old sewing machine and get creative with felt!

Now this sewing machine's foot pedal is broken, so I did these all with the hand wheel and hand sewing....very tedious. It took me two full days to make four purses!

Yeah, my favorite one is the deer too ;)

Wigs & Halloween

I have a confession to make... I am utterly addicted to wigs!
I have wanted to have pink hair ever since I fell in love with Vyxsin and her bright pink hair on the last Amazing Race series. Of course if I were to dye my hair pink for real I would be promptly fired from my job...a nurse with bright pink hair...wouldn't go down so well, especially in a private hospital.
So with firm promises to myself that I will take the plunge and dye it when I travel overseas. I decided to find a less permanent solution for now...wigs!
I found some great sites on ebay...and have since bought four! With plans for many more....

So we recently had Halloween, and sadly it is not as well celebrated here in Australia like it is in America. I managed to get together about 12 friends to go to a night club all dressed up...it was a fantastic night, I think I enjoyed the dressing up more than the actual club!

My shoes were freaking awesome!

Pretty Flamingo

Last week, 4 male teenagers paid to visit the Adelaide Zoo. Later they were arrested after bashing the zoo's 75 year old blind Greater flamingo with their mobile phones in broad daylight...with many witnesses. The flamingo was taken away from its partner for the first time in 70 years and treated for head injuries and stress. Thankfully he made a full recovery.
The people of Adelaide have reacted strongly to this act of evil, many have called that the laws be changed to ensure these boys are publicly named and shamed.
People have made many donations to the zoo, and its attendance has been record high since.
The callous act these boys made, made me feel sick and saddened. Distressed that humans can do such horrible things to a bird who had no way of defending itself.
I was compelled to act and make a contribution.
I made 3 dozen flamingo cupcakes to sell at my work to raise money for the flamingo's healthcare.

I was further disheartened with humanity when I counted my money at the end of the day to find 2 cupcakes had been stolen...sigh...
I put together $100 to adopt the flamingo and I look forward to visiting soon to visit the stunning creature.
